When it comes to iconic Sea-Doos, the X4 hull stands in a league of its own. Widely celebrated in the enthusiast community, it’s known for its sharp handling, playful agility, and undeniable performance on the water. Every die-hard Sea-Doo fan I’ve spoken to has raved about this hull, insisting it’s one of the best-handling skis of the '90s. For years, people have urged me to get my hands on one, swearing it delivers an unmatched riding experience. Well, the wait is over—I finally have one, and I can’t wait to put it to the test!
Since day one all of you guys have said, "Joe you have to buy a Sea-Doo X4 hull" and well guys... I listened! It took a lot of patience and looking, but I finally found an X4 hull that matched my picky standards. In this episode I talk through why I bought this 1995 2nd generation Sea-Doo XP 717cc X4 hull and why I didn't buy the iconic Sea-Doo XP787 (XP800) 1995 or 1996...I know I know, everyone is going to say 'you bought the wrong engine', but I have a logic and a reason why the 717, is the right pick for my collection.
In this episode I show you how to save and bring back to life your old Sea-Doo XP 717, or any of the earlier Sea-Doo handlebar rubber covers. This approach will work with pretty much any of these old style covers, including the likes of the Sea-Doo XP 800, GSX and more! Using a tar remover and 303 UV protector, you may just yet save your OEM cover...give it a try before you result to handlebar neoprene covers, losing the OEM look.
In this episode, I tackle cleaning a 30-year-old engine bay on a 1995 Seadoo XP 717. While the ski was in great shape, the engine bay was filthy after a decade in storage. I started with a deep clean—but that wasn’t enough...so, I pulled the engine out completely! Now, I’m all in on a full transformation. By the end of these next couple of episodes, this ski will look like a brand new 2025 XP! Don’t miss this episode and Episode 5 for the full process!
So the engine is out! I bit the bullet and decided to take the engine out of this Seadoo XP 717 1995 X4... In this episode I take the time to sand and prep the engine, ready to be sprayed in the spray shop - Cars Of Winford in a fresh heat resistant, frozen gloss white engine paint. Then I visit the Powder Coaters Williams Oakey to get the exhaust and water box Powder Coated in an OEM matching purple. This transformation really did turn out like new!
This is the episode you’ve all been waiting for—my first-ever ride on a 1995 Seadoo XP 717 X4! But that’s not all. You’ll also get a full engine reveal after it was removed, prepped, and freshly sprayed. On top of that, I’ll take you through a series of key updates and essential maintenance to bring this legendary ski back to top form. From performance tweaks to final touches, this episode is packed with action. Don’t miss it!
What a perfect day of riding! We all strive for these perfect jetski moments, where the sun is out, you're blasting along and you're on a hull that throws you off, you get back on and go again 😎🌊
Join me as I blast this iconic Seadoo XP 717 1995 around @158performance4 lake. Guys this machine just never gets old, for me it has the perfect power to weight ratio, it keeps you guessing, questions you as a rider that the new gen just doesn't, and to top it off, the sound is 2 stroke heaven.
The X4... This is without doubt the most asked for ski from my followers... yes I know it’s not the 787 XP but when this 717 came up... everything fell into place. The owner had owned this XP for 17 years... when he pulled it out the garage it was like back to the future! And what followed has been none stop fun! The X4 hull is one of my favourite rides, if not my favourite!
The x4 hull used on the 2nd gen XP and onto the SPX's are largely regarded as the best hulls Seadoo ever made, so obviously I had to have one!
Since day one, alongside the Seadoo HX and Blaster 1, the X4 XP is the most requested ski people asked me to find and add to my line up.
The XP X4's have some of the most rich racing history and as far as a time piece ski goes, they don't come much more iconic than the X4.
I wanted to complete a full line up of every gen XP. Alongise my 1991 XP 1st gen and final 4th gen XPDI...this 1995 XP is the perfect fit for my line up.
