This episode is dedicated to all Dads and sons out there, who have a shared love for something, in this instance its jetskis! In this episode I take my Dad back down memory lane to where it all started for him, we finally found a 1990 Seadoo SP. It’s an emotional episode and one that also gives a real authentic buying experience of these now dying 2 strokes. It’s also so great to see an old school buying/wheeler dealer approach to getting this ski at a steal of a price...my Dad was masterful on the day in question and I was just in awe of his haggling skills.
So when it comes to the Seadoo SP, we are dealing with pure childhood nostalgia. My earliest memory of a jetski is the Seadoo SP. It was the first ski my Dad owned, and back in an era where photos were to and far between, I literally still to this day, cherish only 1 or 2 pics that my Dad took of his SP, back in the day. So when this SP came up, I jumped at it... Here in the UK I have literally only ever seen one SP come up and this is it... It connects so many dots for me in the circle of life (not to quote Disney).
At the age 27 my Dad had this very Seadoo SP. Its really where the story of what got me into Seadoos. It was the first ever ski my Dad owned..so I wanted to get close to his history.
Yes officially Seadoo had a PWC in the late 60's but in modern times the SP first introduced in 1988 was the first modern day model that sparked the year after year model arch.
I love the simplicity of the SP design, it's primitive product styling is unique and unlike modern skis offers a unapologetic basic nature that was lost along the way.
The SP is my first and earliest memory of a jetski. I remember as a kid seeing the SP on the family driveway and forms my earliest love for Seadoos.
