Since day one of starting Classic Jetskis, everyone — and I mean everyone — has said there’s one machine you absolutely must have in the collection: the iconic classic with the legendary engine. Well, I’m beyond stoked to say we finally found one — and not just any one. This absolute time capsule of a Seadoo SPX X4 (1998, 787 engine, 110HP) has just 16 original hours on it. You honestly have to see it to believe it. Massive thanks to Tom from The Jetworks — an absolute legend — for letting me film and making the day unforgettable.
I've always dreamed of owning an SPX with the X4 hull and a 787cc engine — the ultimate cheat code when it comes to X4s, in my opinion. I already have pretty much every Seadoo model from the '90s, and since I’ve got a minty 1995 XP 717 in the garage, going for a 787 SPX X4 over a '96 XP just made perfect sense. And let me tell you — this SPX did not disappoint. Absolute perfection on the water. 💥💛
If you want all the benefits of a 787-powered X4 hull, but with a few extra years of refinement baked in, the SPX is the way to go. It’s everything the ’95–’96 XP was — just wearing an SPX badge. Same soul, just a little more dialed in.
I always wanted one of each of the most iconic Seadoo model names — no overlap, no conflicts. I absolutely love my ’95 XP 717, so getting a ’96 XP felt like it would steal some of its shine. The SPX, though? It’s in its own lane. Same legendary X4 DNA, but with its own identity. And that’s exactly what I wanted.
Everyone screamed at me about how much better the 787 with its 110 horsepower is compared to the baby 717 — so I knew I had to have a full-fat 787 in the garage. No way around it.
IMO, as we got toward the late '90s, Sea-Doo started leaning more into sleek-looking skis rather than the playful, fun vibe they had earlier on. The SPX, though — it always looked super sharp to me. Sleek, aggressive, but still had that X4 soul.
